Manner is infrastructure. It is not a pick.
Shanghai has more cafés than any city on earth. Manner, % Arabica, M Stand, Luckin and Starbucks Reserve are landmarks you will trip over. Seesaw started here and is now a national chain — treat it as a chain. What we keep is the neighbourhood roaster, the room you can actually sit in, and the one worth a Saturday taxi. FFC and Yongkang have density. Gubei has Japanese pour-over downstairs. Qiantan and Biyun turn over shop names. Huacao and Qingpu are thin: accept a weaker cup or plan a Hengfu morning.
Housing A downstairs café is a plus for Jing’an / Xuhui. It is never a reason to refuse a Japanese or Korean school bus.

Official about-pages beat blogs.
Most independent shops live on WeChat rather than a website. Café del Volcán’s English about page tells you to visit 25 Yongkang Road — the Chinese page may still show the old 80; open the English page the morning you go. Sumerian is the Jing’an bagel-and-brew memory; sumeriancoffee.com no longer belongs to the shop — go in person rather than following that domain. Gubei pour-over names come from the Japan Club list of the month.
Housing Yongkang and Shaanxi North are walks from FFC / Jing’an leases. Jinqiao treats them as a Saturday.
