Before choosing a home around a school

  • Britannica: compare the compound and the actual bus stop

The school’s public bus tables name Gubei International Garden, Rich Garden and Mandarin City among their stops. Routes adapt as families join. A compound appearing in the table is a starting point for a transport enquiry, rather than confirmation of a seat for your child.

Send the transport team the exact building, gate and intended start date. Confirm the return stop too.

  • SCIS: check the campus before using a compound list

SCIS publishes separate Hongqiao and Pudong popular-compound lists. Its transport page says adding a bus, route or stop can require up to three months for a permit. Detailed pick-up arrangements come from the school before the first school day.

Before committing to a home, ask whether it uses an existing stop and whether a seat is available for your start date.

  • French and German schools: separate the campus and return service

The French School describes a shared bus service with DSS for the Qingpu and Yangpu campuses. Its housing FAQ advises choosing near a served stop and distinguishing the two campus maps. It also notes that later return buses may use different stops.

Confirm your child’s campus, regular student route and after-school return. Staff-bus documents are a separate service.

  • SSIS: the walk to the bus belongs in the commute

SSIS’s published bus policy generally places boarding at a compound entrance or opposite it, with nearby stops in some road or property-management conditions. An address change during the school year is assigned to an existing route and stop, subject to seats.

Walk from the apartment to the proposed stop and ask the school about current-term arrangements before moving.

SAT and ACT — official search

American-curriculum and some US-college families sit these tests. Open seats on the mainland are few, and third-party “Shanghai test-centre” lists go stale. Search the official pages each time you register. Whether a school hosts a sitting: ask that school’s college counselling, in writing.

A sitting out of town is a weekend trip, not a reason to pick a corridor. School bus and curriculum come first.
