Meituan and Ele.me are the food layer. Binding a foreign card often fails; a mainland debit card plus WeChat or Alipay is the stable path. Addresses must be Chinese, with the villa gate number. High-end compounds that refuse riders are a viewing question. Documents go to a company reception more reliably than a villa booth. International parcels are a customs problem, not a vet problem.

FFC and Jing’an: restaurant density is high; old houses have no front desk — ask about lockers or the management office. Gubei and Hongquan: Japanese and Korean kitchens deliver densely. Biyun and Jinqiao: planned compounds, strict gates — ask at the viewing whether the rider can enter. Huacao and Qingpu villas: kitchens are thin, overtime is common, documents to a booth are unreliable. Qiantan and Lujiazui: mall plus office — company reception beats the flat. Japanese and Korean households often order in their language UI or let the ayi tap. Western short-stays stall on a foreign card.

Meituan and Ele.me usually want WeChat or Alipay already working. Binding a foreign card directly fails often. Open the PBOC foreign-visitor payment guide and the in-app card page — passport verification, then a tiny test charge. A travel eSIM does not receive the mainland bank SMS. A debit card you can actually bind is still the week-one job.
