Taprooms close. The official site is the room.
Shanghai’s craft scene is younger than its cocktail scene and more fragile. Rooms that were famous in 2018 are often a clothing shop now. Shanghai Brewery still runs an official site and names its Donghu room. Boxing Cat was the city’s first widely known brewpub brand — treat current rooms as a field check, not a memory. Import taps in hotel bars are not craft. If you care about the tank, ask where it is brewed before you sit.
Housing A taproom in Xuhui is a reason to stay west after work. It is not a reason to refuse a Jinqiao school.

SmartShanghai first. Dianping second. No scalper groups.
English event calendars beat frozen “best of” lists. SmartShanghai still indexes tap takeovers and brewery nights. Dianping is useful once you can read a Chinese review for “已关闭”. Hotel bars will pour imports at hotel prices — fine for one drink after a client dinner, wrong if you came for a local IPA. Drive-home rules are the same as anywhere: the villa family that wants a taproom should live near a metro, not a last-mile taxi after last call.
